2016 - MESSAGES
As 2016 nears the end of the year, a lot of exciting things have happened this year. We had a wonderful turnout for our 70th birthday party in July. Since then, I asked you whether you were ready to celebrate again with a 55th class reunion and the answers I received were "YES". That would then be 2019.
It's less than 3 years down the road so we have a while before we make a plan. Let me know what you think. Email me with your thoughts and ideas.
Jim

If you ever wondered what I do in my spare time now that I am 100% retired, I have tried to keep myself busy with community projects, reunions and charities.
LYNDHURST, OHIO – South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools Alumni Association dedicated the Brush Alumni Association’s Legacy Gallery (1865 – 1970) at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. The gallery is a collection of photographs and memorabilia depicting the history and growth of the District from 1865 through 1970. The display includes a wide selection of photographs and showcases containing various items that represent the culture and tradition of the South Euclid-Lyndhurst City Schools.
The gallery is located on the second floor of the Administration Building. For further information contact Jim Makee (I have his phone number, please email me for it).
The Alumni Association has a newsletter and I find it to be very informative and for $10 for your annual membership you can receive a copy. You can make larger donations also and gear your donations towards General Operations, Scholarships or Restoration Projects. They also sell pavers placed in front of the school if you want to acknowledge an event, sibling or a class mate that has passed away. Carl Singer and I split the cost of one recognizing our classmates that died as a result of the Vietnam war.

In the "Alumni Arc - Lite" newsletter they published "Thoughts on High school Reunions". Here's what they said about the 50th. "The golden reunion is the second-most well-attended. There's a sense that this could be the last time you see these people! You realize that too many of your classmates are no longer with you to celebrate. Classmates go because THEY CAN! As with the 40th, nostalgia is strong (and what you don't remember, you swear you can recall!). So far we know of at least 36 classmates that are no longer with us. Think about it. Stay in touch. Jim
REMEMBERING JUNIE DAVIS:
There is a Scholarship Fund started by Junie Davis' sister and mostly funded by some of her closest friends. The fund is depleted and as of now it will not be presented to the seniors in the Class of 2013. Sad. When I sent out the list of deceased class members we all had friends on the list, but the most comments I received about anyone was Junie. She was simply a beautiful person and nice to everyone. I asked some of her close friends if I could open this up to the entire class and they overwhelmingly said YES! If you are interested in donating please let me know. Just few dollars from each of us could amount to a few Scholarships and recognize a wonderful person. The address for sending your donations for the scholarship fund is:
Brush Alumni Association
5044 Mayfield Rd
Lyndhurst, Oh 44124
Then on the inside indicate its for the Junie Davis scholarship fund.
BULLETIN BOARD
A note from Jim Hirsch:
"For everyone's information, David Geurink, a dear '64 classmate of ours and my next door neighbor for many years passed away on April 4 of this year." (2012)
____________________
At this time, I have no specific get-together information from our Classmates.
Attached are 3 pictures taken recently of some of our alums. Rick Doesburg stopped in St. Louis to see Jane Howard Olesky and her husband Tom. Cheryl Ebersole Burich and Linda Eichle Hangosky were at a restaurant in Eastgate. Peggy Siegel is with my wife Sandy and myself while we were in DC. I also wanted to check our the Washington Nationals new ballpark.
Everyone needs a plan, and mine is to attend a game in every park in America. I will let you know when I'm in the neighborhood. Citi Park in NY, the Marlins new park in Miami are the only two east of the Mississippi I have yet to see. I have not seen a game on the west coast at all so that might be next years trip.
In the meantime, I hope to see a number of you at our second annual picnic on July 22.
A BIRTHDAY PARTY - 2011
Sunday, July 10th. Happy 65th Birthday Party !
The Eastern 65th Birthday Party was a success. We had 52 alums there and lots of spouses. Even though Cleveland was in the 90's, under the shade of the pavilion and the trees I thought it was quite comfortable. Frank Jacono sent me the first picture, one that includes most of us. Some folks showed up late so I can't guarantee how many of us are in Frank's picture and there are some heads in the background that will remain anonymous. Pictures are on page 3.
The weekend was an opportunity for out of town alums to see family, reunite with friends, etc., but for 3 of us we had a special occasion. Rick Doesburg, Don Barr and myself drove out to Western Pennsylvania played gold with Mr. Kingzett. I find it hard to call him "Bill" but it was all first names at the course and we had a ball. I can tell you if you plan on challenging "Bill" you better be a pretty good golfer. Bill can still hit a golf ball and he looks great. I only hope to look that good at 80. His course is Whispering Pines near Meadville, Pa, not far from the Ohio border. They all call him "Coach" out there.
With the golf, Bar Louie at Legacy Village in Lyndhurst and the picnic I couldn't ask for a better weekend. Thanks to all of you that made that happen. I was asked if we could have a picnic every year.
Additionally, I received a copy from the Brush Alumnae Association about their latest inductee into the "Wall Of Achievement". The recipient is Don Barr. Congratulations Don. I missed Lucy Mady Sulhany as an inductee into the Wall of Achievement. Previous recipients (that I know of) have been Peggy Siegel and Les Levine. Buck Cummings was voted into the Hall of Fame for his back to back wrestling titles in 1963 and 1964. All great accomplishments. If I have missed anyone else please let me know .

Additional Information
I have been in constant contact with Carolyn Mills and Cliff Weiler about our West Coast birthday party on June 25th. Pictures of that Birthday party are on page 3 along with the pictures from our East Coast party. Both parties are gathering information about things you may want to do for our 50th reunion. Hopefully we will find a variety of activities that will keep you in touch with your friends and make your trip to Cleveland worthwhile.
I also received a request from Peggy Siegel. Peggy joined us at our birthday picnic on July 10 just in case you were wondering. She wants to know if anyone remembers who the speakers were at our commencement. I have no idea so if anyone knows help us out.
Thanks, Jim
Reply from Dennis Lambert:
Well Jim, as Art Baker would say,

Pat Seidel with Husband and Sister, Barb.
The Brush High Wall of Achievement ceremony was in November (2011). First, "Bill" Kingzett and Don Barr. Rick Doesburg drove up from Cincinnati to take the four pictures I have attached and Gail Lipstreau and Pat Cassidy also attended. I can brag that both Gail and Pat attended Anderson Rd Elementary. The program was described in the latest Brush High Alumni News Letter.
Carolyn Mills Jensen, her husband, Carol Gutheinz Hendrickson, Scott Wyman, Lynn Spinks Wollin, Paul Shipley, myself and my wife Sandy met for lunch at the hotel where Sandy and I were staying in LA. (2011)

We received a number of pictures and this one is called "The mini reunion" which is Sandi Trauben Kaufman, Jackie Wild Stimpert, Barb Griner Dolak and Linda Gordon Ehrbar (and their husbands. (the girls are left to right starting at the bottom). Very few changes, I recognized every one of them.
Here I am with Don Barr (far right) at a golf fund raiser for Huntington's disease held up in Cleveland. We didn't win any prizes with our golfing but we had a great time and helped raise money to find a cure for HD.
This is a picture of Larry Neff and myself after we attended the Browns/New England football game.

Hopefully you all recognize Karen Schwartz Kaplan and Toby Glazer Eisenberg. My wife Sandy and I met them for brunch. Karen and I were in 7th grade homeroom together. Sandy and I went to Ron Ober's party to celebrate the coming of summer. Pictured are Dave Walker, Gail Lipstreau Gray and Ronnie. David is not asleep I just caught him with his eyes closing.

I have attached a note and picture I just received from Carol Gutheinz Hendrickson. Great picture. I know there are other mini reunions going on so please forward your pictures to me and I will get them distributed. I did know that Carol moved to LA and I am also going to send the California list to Carol.
Hi Jim,
I wanted to check with you and make sure I am on your list of alumni living in Southern California for the Brush 65th birthday party. We moved to Los Angeles almost 2 years ago. Thanks so much for all your efforts in keeping us all connected and working on our 50th.

I have attached a picture you can share of a group of us who have been meeting every year since our 40th. This picture was taken in Las Vegas last November.

So far the response to the [65] "birthday party" has been very positive. I have heard from NY, NJ, VA, NC and of course from Ohio. Patty Seidel Nordberg from Saint Joseph, Michigan has offered to
host one for her area. Northern Indiana, Illinois
(Chicago), northwest Ohio and of course Michigan. Let me know if you are interested. Someday I am going to make it up there. Patty makes it sound like a great place to visit. The other state we have a considerable number of alums is Florida. If anyone would like to organize a 65th down there let me know and I will work up a distribution list for you. For those of you living in the eastern part of the country I thought we could do the same thing.
A quick update. Attached is a picture of Dave Turk, Gail Lipstreau, Cheryl Ebersole and myself. We met for lunch yesterday in Mayfield Heights. I had to be in Cleveland for some business and stopped in to see Don Barr for a few minutes and then met the rest for lunch.

Hi, its been awhile since our last update. We are still finding more alumnae. Rick Doesburg put me onto Jacquie Sturm and she in turn ran some searches on the web and found a number of "lost" folks. Some of the leads were old and didn't pan out but I have talked with Joe Luca, Jim Hirsch and Keith Kallberg. I don't have an email for Keith yet but I did talk to his wife. They are living in Maine and Keith is running marathons. Joe is in Russel, Oh and Jim is in Mentor. I am going to sit down tonight and mail out some letters to classmates that I only have addresses for. Jacquie split the lost list and she is handling the girls and I got the guys. I'm sure the girls are more difficult because of name changes so a big thanks to her for this effort. We now have email addresses for 198 alums.
Don't forget, if you move or retire and change your email let me know. In a few weeks I will send out an updated list. Over the winter months I have had the opportunity to meet up with Barb Pettit Walters, Bill Blackburn, Dan Delahanty, Bob Delaney and Carole Kraus Rowell. It was great seeing them again. I hope you are all doing well. Never stop looking for your classmates and keep September 2014 open for our 50th reunion.
Sally Caldwell sent a clip on Euclid Beach from YouTube. It's link is on page 4, under "Remembering Euclid Beach". Enjoy!

How About A 50th Reunion Year Book?
I was looking at the very nice year book produced for the 40th reunion and thought it would be a great idea for our 50th. In it were pictures of everyone along with whatever text each alum wanted. Some people simply sent best wishes to the group and others talked about their families. If you would like to think about it and pass the information on to me I will gather it and produce something similar for our 50th. I have also been in touch with Arnie Cohn and he gave me some advice on how to reproduce that "yearbook" from the 40th reunion and we will definitely do that again. That was a dynamite effort and looking forward to publishing another one in a few years.
Might be nice to follow the lives of our friends over the 50 years since high school. I know we still have 4 years until our 50th and hopefully lots of good things will happen between then and now.

Here are 2 pictures sent to me by Carole Kraus from the FIR annual reunion in Cape Cod earlier this month (June 2011). For those of you that don't know the club members contribute to a scholarship fund for a Brush High Student in the name of Junie Davis. A great way to memorialize a wonderful young lady that we lost too soon.
